About

Stefan hails from Bulgaria. He has earned Bachelor and Master degrees in Engineering Physics from the University of Oldenburg, Germany. Before starting his PhD in New Materials Group at the University of Vigo, Spain he has already spent 2 years there investigating deposition of biomaterials using lasers and light trapping polymer substrates for solar cells. While his current work focuses on synthesis and characterization of Group IV alloys (SiGeC, SiGe, GeSn, SiGeSn, GePb), mostly orientated towards bandgap engineering and optical properties optimization, his non-work interests range widely, everything from numerical simulations to Linux networking.

Fundamental research on Pulsed Laser Induced Epitaxy (PLIE) of Group IV semiconductor alloys:

  • Extended the PLIE technology to a wide range of alloys, including (Si)GeSn and GePb
  • Optimized PLIE to be applicable in macro and micro scale using simple optics

Mr. Stefanov has been a very motivated, committed and demanding student, always wishing to learn more and to deepen in his knowledge, both at theoretical as well as technical level. He has accepted the challenge to work in a very demanding field according to his academic background, and has achieved the goal to work independently at the pulsed laser deposition system.
