Francisco Daniel Freijedo Fernández

I am an R&D Engineer at Gamesa Innovation and Technology; my area of expertise is the design of advanced controls for high-demanding applications of ac power electronics converters. I have been involved in technology and development projects related to multi-MW wind turbines (onshore and offshore), high power drives, current/voltage control for weak grids and multilevel converters. Currently, I am working in the development of the control algorithms for the new 2.5 MW wind turbine based on double fed induction generator (G114-2.5MW project).

Previously, I had a position as Researcher and Lecturer at the University of Vigo (Electronics Technology Department), where I got my PhD. There, I have participated as researcher in several public and private projects. Currently, I continue to collaborate intensively with my former colleagues at the University of Vigo; particularly, I am cosupervisor of a PhD Thesis in development (A. Vidal) devoted to advanced controls for grid codes compliance (e.g. LVRT requirements for wind turbines).

I also have a previous experience (one year) as software developer. My research achievements could be summarized as follows: I have authored more than 50 research publications, 22 of which are included in JCR indexed journals. Some of these are in collaboration with prestigious international groups, such as the Universities of Glasgow, Aalborg, Sevilla and John Moores of Liverpool. I have also contributed several internal (confidential) reports for Gamesa’s technological and development projects (design guidelines, test results of prototypes, etc.).
